Here is some of what you need to know: The parking area is in the middle of nowhere, and it is unmistakable. I tell you this because I was nervous that I was missing something and boom their it was plain as day.
1. Scroll the mouse over the altitude line to see where it lines up on the map
2. Click on the flags for more information
3. Click on the pictures to make them large
Of all the five fire towers in the Catskills this is the easiest (Mount Tremper is the Hardest in my opinion). An 800′ climb in elevation over 1.3 miles is still a workout but you do not need the endurance that the longer trails require. The path is easy to follow (Yellow Blazes) and maintained enough that I felt comfortable to run; I made it to the top in 27 minutes (don’t judge, it was my second mountain of the day);.
The cab at the top of all the Catskill fire towers are locked and only open on weekends between Memorial day and Columbus between 10am-4PM. Any day of the week that is clear you can get a great view of some big mountains from the top of the steps.
These towers can are a part of the larger Adirondack fire tower challenge; below are the others we have hiked in that challenge. Also, check out the East Coast Fire Tower page.
