Stissing fire tower

This is a short hike up a steep mountain. The difficult hike is worth it for the view at the top.

This trail is short, steep, and at times rocky. We were there late fall, and the leaf covered path was as slippery as can be. The trail runs almost right to the top with only one split, we kept left on the trail, right will take you to the same location but is less steep.

We were in the tower just as the sun was setting, that threw a nice shadow beyond all the mountains in sight. We knew it would be hard to beat a birds eye view of the sunset, but we left the tower early to avoid walking back in the dark. It took about 25 minutes to hike down to the car.

We could see the tower on our drive home.—->

It is hard to find such a great view after only a short hike. Put this on your leaf peeper list. Nearby hikes include Alander mountain, Bash Bish Falls, and the Hudson River valley.
